There are two things the Lunabar application does. The first thing it does is to put two icons in the system tray; one presents the current moon phase, the other presents the moon’s sign. The second thing the application does is to provide access to a Full Lunar Almanack which presents a lot more info about the moon, including some moon lore that you may find interesting.

The Lunabar installation file is inside a 4MB archive. So download the archive, extract the executable inside, run it, and a setup wizard will show up and help you install Lunabar on your Windows PC. According to the developer, the application is compatible with the following Windows editions: 98SE, ME, 2000, and XP.

The Lunabar application is made up of two components: the taskbar icon and the Full Almanack. If you set it so the taskbar icon will be run automatically at startup, you don’t have to access any links in the Start Menu or put any shortcuts on the desktop. The icon will be loaded automatically and from that icon you can launch the Almanack. Alternatively, you can launch the icon and the Almanack from the Lunabar folder in the Start menu.

There are two ways to customize the interface of the Lunabar Full Almanack. From the View menu you can pick one of multiple toolbar themes. From the Options menu you can pick one of several visual themes that will change the Almanack’s background image. It must be mentioned that you can also easily change this image by clicking a button on the application’s toolbar.

Using Lunabar is a very simple process. Hover the mouse over the Lunabar icon in the system tray and the application will provide info about the moon’s phase and sign. Open the Full Almanack, click through the buttons on the toolbar, and you will be presented with a lot of other info about the moon – its constellation, when it rises, when it sets, moon lore, and so on. Please note that for the information displayed by Lunabar to be accurate, you must select your location. You can do that from My Location in the Options menu.

Lunabar is freeware.

Easily access a lot of info about the moon by getting the Lunabar application.

Pros

Installing Lunabar on a Windows PC is a simple process. The moon phase and the moon sign are presented in the taskbar. Various other moon-related info is presented in the Full Lunar Almanack. Lunabar is freeware.

Cons

The “Moon Void of Course” table is out of date and, at the time of writing this, there’s no new version available for download.
